JUNIOR FLEET

From its first junior program in 1953, WRSC has a long and successful history with young sailors - giving some of the best sailors in the country their start. Our instructors instill not only a respect for the water, but also teach the techniques and skills required to sustain a life-long passion for the sport while always keeping at the forefront the most important element of teaching young children – FUN!

SUMMER PROGRAM (AGES 6-18)

Our summer program runs from mid-June through mid-August, Monday through Friday. Our students will not only learn through repetitive drills but also through creative ways such as an Adventure Sail, an inquisitive Treasure Hunt, a game of Jeopardy on a stormy day, and through so many other creative ways. Each session culminates with a special activity that will use all the skills that they have learned whether it be it a sail to High Island in the Rhode River for lunch or a quiet picnic to Round Bay to observe the horseshoe crabs hatching their young.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our High School sailing program sails from start of school to November, starting back up in March ending in May. This is the newest addition to our education programs at WRSC and are excited to see it grow! No experience needed, come tryout and see if it's for you!

FALL & SPRING SAILING PROGRAM

New in Fall of 2021, our Fall Sailing Program is geared towards our Opti Sailors who are looking to continue their skills into the Fall and Spring seasons. This is for sailors who have been in an Intermediate or higher summer program only. Sessions start in September and go through to the end of October on Sunday afternoons.

COVID-19 OPERATING POLICIES

WRSC is proud to have been the only fully volunteer operated club to remain fully open in our area and it is all thanks to our dedicated community founded in the love of sailing. At this moment our club-wide policy document is still in place. For the Junior Program, last year's Education Covid-19 Plan is no longer in place. However we will be operating based on every participants comfort zone. If you have any concerns, please email Heidi Bay (education@westriversc.com)

IT IS OUR GOAL TO PRODUCE LIFELONG SAILORS WHO TRULY ENJOY THE SPORT!

WHY JOIN OUR PROGRAM?

WRSC, unlike most of our local competitors, offers full-day sessions that allow parents more time to simply get things done during the day while their kids are out sailing — at the same costs. The West River is perfectly suited towards learning, as it is secluded and low-traffic even on a mid-summer day with many protected coves and creeks for our program to spread out when needed.

2022 JUNIOR FLEET FUNDRAISER

At this time, we are hopeful that we will be able to run our 4th Annual Junior Fleet Fundraiser in the Winter/Spring of 2022! Stay tuned for a date and more details. If you'd like to volunteer to help run the event this year, email Heidi Bay at education@westriversc.com!
