Hello from Jahn Tihansky, our new Commodore!

Happy new year to the West River Sailing Club community!  

I’m Jahn Tihansky and I’m excited to serve as your commodore for the coming year.  Please join me in thanking our outgoing Commodore, Bill Whitman whose steady hand and professional expertise successfully guided us through one of the most transformative years in the club’s history.

My wife Patty and I joined in 2010 and are fortunate to live just a couple of miles up the road from the club.  We own an A Class catamaran and a J/37 cruiser, and are active in a wide range of sailing activities.  

When we first joined, features that most attracted us were the club’s stunning location, protected waters and close proximity to the bay.  Once members, we came to find that there was much more to it including a long rich history as well as a keen and diverse membership.

Few clubs enjoy such wonderful attributes and we’re incredibly lucky to have them as ours!  

While much of my activity here has been racing in the catamaran fleet, I’ve gotten to know people in our other racing fleets, long-time cruisers as well as some of our juniors.  It’s heartening to see everyone taking advantage of all the club has to offer.

Two of my goals as Commodore are to:

• Enhance the membership experience for us all

• Strengthen our club community  

Whether you’re new to sailing or a seasoned sailor, I’m sure you prize your leisure time and wish to maximize your enjoyment from the time you spend here.  The club has much to offer including sailing instruction for both juniors and adults, an attractively priced shared boat program, a variety of racing fleets you can choose to compete in, and a vibrant group of cruisers. 

While we all represent a fairly wide range of interests, I think the thread that ties us all together is our common love of the water and at least for me, the desire to share our experiences with friends and loved ones.

I’m happy to have you as a fellow member and will do my best to deliver on these goals for you.

If we don’t already know each other, I hope to meet you soon.
