The West River Sailing Club, located in Galesville, Maryland on the beautiful and peaceful West River, is looking for qualified Sailing Instructors to join our team.  We have a wide variety of opportunities for you to share your skill and love of sailing with future sailors ranging from ages 4 ½ - 18 in our Junior Summer and High School Programs, plus we also run an adult sailing school for those of all ages over 18.  We are a fast growing program and looking for a few good instructors to join our team.


All Level Instructor - Able to teach basic sailing to anyone

Opt Racing Coach - Must be able to actually coach, not just be a good racer.

Adult Learn to Sail Coach (this is on four summer weekends)



  • Supervision and sailing instruction on our fleet of 18 optis, 6 420s, and 6 Lasers with access to club owned Lasers, 420s Albacores, and Flying Scots.

  • Safety supervision and instruction of our sailing program.

  • Engaging and being a part of our sailing community.


  • Ideal candidates would hold a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Certification or similar - we are hosting an instructors clinic in June if you do not have already have your certification

  • First Aid and CPR Required

  • Lifeguard Certification a plus

  • Would like a full summer session commitment but also understand that we are all sailors and can work with you and your regatta schedule or other commitments


  • Set-up Week is June 14th

  • With multiple different programs running from June 21 thru August 13

  • Break-down Week is August 16

  • More opportunities to teach beyond these dates if interested for the right candidate, for instance our High School Program and Adult Learn to Sail.

Housing can be arranged. 

Salary dependent on experience, current certifications and qualifications, commitment.
