HIGH SCHOOL SAILING (8-12 GRADES)

Since the fall of 2019, we have hosted sailors from Southern High School in the fall and spring sailing seasons to compete against other schools in the area. In their first season, the team of five sailors won their first regatta and finished 4th out of 18 qualified teams at their regional event! We are looking forward to growing the team while building on the successes of their first season!

This team joins the 5000 sailors who compete in high school sailing across the United States. We will mainly compete against schools in Maryland and DC as a part of the Maryland Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (MDISA) league, a subset of the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Assocaition (MASSA) league. At MDISA events, we will be competing at unique venues all over the area. At MASSA events, sailors from Virginia to New York compete to advance to higher level events on the path to High School Nationals.

We are very excited to be home to this growing team and are seeking other area schools to join our sailing program. We offer one of the nicest rivers to practice out on, a school-first mentality to our teams, and the room to grow the program as seen fit! Reach out to our Education Director for more information about your school joining our high school sailing program. We welcome individual sailors to join us as well if their school does not have a sailing team.

MEET THE TEAM!

Southern High has had a team on and off for the past few decades with one team competing at High School Nationals, yet until 2019 has not had a permanent space to call home within the Annapolis area high school sailing programs. Now West River Sailing Club proudly hosts the Southern High School Bulldogs, allowing them to grow and supporting all of their needs.

Practices are on Monday, Thursday, and Friday — although these days change as we work around everyone's schedules each season for maximized attendance.

Regatta days are typically one day for JV and two days for Varsity.

More details on schedules, practices, regattas, and costs will be posted once it known.

Official Spring 2020 practice days will be discussed and decided at the pre-season interest meeting!
